Side Hinged Garage Doors
Why Choose a Side Hinged Garage Door
There are a number of reasons to choose a side hinged garage door. Most single garages don’t have the room to fit a modern car inside, so instead are used as storage or utility spaces. Resulting in situations where only personnel access is required. Maybe the largest item to be stored in the garage and accessed regularly is a lawn mower or rubbish bins.
For larger items such as garden furniture etc the second door can be opened to give a full width access into the garage.
The main access door can be to either side to suit the property and your needs and the door can be portioned from 50/50 split to 70/30 split depending on your individual needs and door styling, certain doors can only be supplied as a 50/50 split due to the design whether that be due to windows or georgian panel designs or in some cases the width of the garage.
Allowing access though just a portion of the door rather than lifting the whole door. These types of doors allow you to utilize the garage to the maximum for storage as very little to no room is required inside the garage unlike a traditional up and over door that have vertical or horizontal tracking systems to allow the garage door to open into the garage. And reducing usable space within the garage.
Side hinged doors predominantly open outwards on the driveway. Although some manufacturers have the ability to produce the doors inward opening if required. So if you have a sloping driveway that slopes upwards away from the garage, outward opening doors tend not to work as they will hit the floor before they are fully open. So inward opening doors may be an option but this will take usable room from inside the garage, i would recommend you have a long garage before considering this option.
Different suppliers of these doors have different properties; most manufacturers have a single skin option ( non insulated) and some offer insulted versions in similar styling. If the garage is connected to the house an insulated door may be preferable as this will reduce heat loss from the home. Different levels of insulation are available with these doors so there is a middle ground between non insulated and fully insulated doors.
